ARCH 4010: Research Studio: Re-centering Delhi - Fall 2015
Delhi is an overpopulated city that cannot provide enough ressources for its increasing population. The main source of water: The Yamuna River is now polluted and contains 0% of oxygen. This project is a prototype located in East Delhi that can be applied and adapted all along the River Edge. East Delhi is the densest part of the city. There is no access to public space or water sanitation infrastructures which causes the dirty water to flow into the Yamuna contributing to its pollution. This project proposes to remove current housing in East Delhi in order to create public spaces. These will be composed of a better and denser housing building to relocate the inhabitants and hold a public service such as classrooms, market spaces and cultural centers on the bottom floors. The new public space will also include outside spaces and a water treatment system allowing clean water to be brought back to the river by the intermediate of a new drainage and sewage system.
