Arch 1030: Foundation Studio I - Spring 2012
This project is located in the First Year Favela of the North Terrace of Campbell Hall (University of Virginia School of Architecture). It abides by the constraints of having 90 ft3 per occupant, being made of recyclable material, being light enough to carry and having an assembly time of 24 hours.
The purpose of this 24-hour pod is to provide a sleeping space for its occupants as well as a minimum of one other activity for the community.
This colorful pod is made out of more than 600 recycled bottles, painted chopsticks and styrofoam. This design encourages community gatherings and uses transparency to allow better communication amongst the two people occupying the pods as well as with the other pods. It function as a bedroom, a gathering space, a nail salon and a twister game board. The focus on community and communication guides the design of "Living in Colors".
